Victim identified in Saturday night shooting

Antonio Spauding Antonio Spauding

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Saturday shooting is now a homicide investigation for Louisville Metro Police.

Police say two people were shot in the 1700 block of South 13th Street. Authorities initially thought that the injuries were non-life threatening. Now, one of victims is dead.

The coroner has identified the victim as 35-year-old Antonio Spauding. Spauding's wife, Nikki Spauding was also injured from the shooting, she was shot in the leg.

"I'm 36 I didn't think I was gonna be no widow at 36," said Nikki Spauding.

Nikki Spauding is trying to make sense of what happened Saturday night. On Sunday, she held on to a picture of her husband, Antonio, who was shot right outside their home.

"I'm still trying to wrap my mind around that I'm not going to see him no more," said Nikki Spauding. "We were just in the house earlier that day laughing, joking, playing, and now he's gone."

Police say around 9:40 Saturday night they were called to the 1700 block of South 13th Street.

Nikki was shot in the leg, Police say Antonio was shot in the torso, he later died at University Hospital.

Nikki says an argument led to the shooting.

"I didn't think it was going to escalate that far, it wasn't that serious," said Nikki Spauding. "They have more serious arguments where we live at than that."

Police say they are still in the early stages of their investigation, and are following leads and have not made any arrest at this time.

"I just want them to turn themselves in I don't want anyone to be killed behind this I just them to turn themselves in do the right thing," said Nikki Spauding.
