LOUISVILLLE, KY (WAVE) - The Memorial Day holiday turned tragic for one family after a fatal motorcycle accident in downtown Louisville. Shortly before 5 p.m. Monday a motorcyclist was struck by a car at the intersection of Jackson and Jacob Streets in the Smoketown neighborhood.
According to LMPD, the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Jackson Street when he was struck by a brown Chevrolet Camaro, who was traveling eastbound on Jacob Street. Police say the driver was knocked off his motorcycle and died instantly. It is unclear if the driver was wearing his helmet.
LMPD officers were talking to witnesses to see if speed and alcohol were factors in this crash.
No other vehicles were involved.
The driver of the motorcycle has not been identified.
LMPD 4th Division and LMPD Traffic Officers along with the Jefferson County Coroners Office will be investigating this crash.
