Driver dies in early morning accident on I-75

LEXINGTON, KY (WAVE) - At approximately 3:44 Sunday morning, units from the Division of Police and Fire/EMS were dispatched to I-75 southbound near the 100-mile marker in reference to a on-vehicle accident.

Upon arrival, they found a green, Ford Expedition had left the roadway and struck a rock cut. The driver was ejected and found dead in the roadway.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit (CRU) was called and they determined the vehicle left the roadway, struck a guardrail, went out of control and crossed the median. The truck then struck a rock cut and spun and flipped, ejecting the driver.

The Fayette County Coroner pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Impairment by alcoholic beverages and no seat belt are believed to be contributing factors in the collision. The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of family.
