Fugitive sent to prison for life in killing

GRAYSON, KY (AP) - A judge in Grayson has sentenced a man convicted in the killing of his ex-girlfriend to life in prison.

The sentence imposed upon Robin Mapel on Monday doesn't allow parole or probation, WKYT-TV in Lexington reported. Mapel was found guilty in the shooting death of Melissa Patrick in 2008 after he escaped from jail in Montgomery County. He was being held there after his arrest on charges that he kidnapped an infant son he and Patrick had together.

Authorities said Mapel kidnapped Patrick and fatally shot her.

The murder case against Mapel was moved to Carter County from Morgan County where Patrick was killed.
