LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Traffic was brought to a standstill Wednesday after a car and a semi hauling a backhoe were involved in a crash in the westbound lanes of Interstate 64 near the Sherman Minton Bridge.
MetroSafe dispatchers reported the crash just before 1 p.m. The backhoe was leaking diesel fuel, and crews were trying to clean it up.
This has been declared a "Level 1" hazmat situation.
So far, no injuries have been reported.
Traffic was being rerouted off of I-64 at 22nd Street in west Louisville causing heavy traffic congestion in that area as well.
