BROWNSVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Seven zebras are running loose after
they escaped from a farm near the Haywood and Lauderdale County
Owner Nancy Bain told WREG-TV the animals pushed over her
six-foot fence and escaped about two weeks ago.
Staff from the Missouri Zoo was able to capture a baby zebra,
born after the escape, but one stallion, four mares and two colts
remain at large.
Farmer Billy Lankford said he couldn't believe it when he saw
zebras on his land. He said they have been coming onto his farm to
eat his soybeans but they are also trampling his tomatoes.
The Haywood County Sheriff's Department has issued a citation to
Bain for allowing livestock to run loose.
