Family of woman missing for decade searches in Kentucky

SCOTTSVILLE, Ky. (AP) - The family of an Indianapolis woman missing since 2000 has resumed a search for her remains in southern Kentucky.

Jack Lee spent the weekend in Scottsville looking for the remains of his niece, Karen Jo Smith, who was 35-years-old when she was last seen.

Smith's ex-husband, Steven Halcomb, was convicted in 2004 of murdering Smith and received a 95-year prison sentence. Prosecutors said at Halcomb's trial that he killed Smith after she ordered him out of their home. Investigators say Halcomb had told police where he left the remains.

In April, police from Kentucky and Indiana searched in Allen County, just southeast of Bowling Green along the Tennessee border.

Lee told WBKO-TV in Bowling Green the family is ready for the search to end and give Smith a proper burial.
