LOUISVILLE (WAVE) - A house near Churchill Downs was heavily damaged in an early morning fire Tuesday. The blaze started around 3:30 a.m. in the 600 block of M Street.
According to Louisville Fire & Rescue spokesman Salvador Melendez, when fire crews arrived at the scene at 3:37 a.m., they encountered heavy fire and smoke coming through the first floor and side windows of the two-story house.
Melendez says the fire started in a first floor living room, where it was contained. The rest of the house sustained smoke and water damage.
Damage to the home and its furnishings is estimated at around $50,000.
