Service Member from Kentucky drowns on Okla. river float

TAHLEQUAH, Okla. (AP) - Authorities have recovered the body of a service member from Kentucky who drowned while on a float trip on the Illinois River in eastern Oklahoma.

The Oklahoma Scenic Rivers Commission says the body of 29-year-old Adam R. Morefield of Winchester, Ky., was recovered Sunday morning.

The agency says Morefield was on a rafting trip with two other service members Saturday when he vanished after swimming behind the raft for much of the trip.

Morefield had been training at the Army Joint Munitions plant at McAlester, as had others with him on the float.

The death is under investigation. The commission says Morehead and the two other people had been drinking alcohol and had not worn life jackets.
