Trial date set for attorney charged with smuggling drugs into jail

SHEPHERDSVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville attorney who was jailed for smuggling contraband into the Bullitt County Detention Center will soon stand trial.

Michael Wade is accused of trying to smuggle heroin, syringes, and other contraband into the Bullitt County Detention center.

Police say the drugs were intended for client and friend, Bryan Popplewell.

Popplewell is suspect in a dozen burglaries in Bullitt and Jefferson Counties.

After receiving a tip, investigators say they searched Wade's car and found drugs, syringes - as well as properties from the burglaries Popplewell is accused of committing.

Wade's trial date was set for June 24 at 11 a.m.
