LOUISVILLE (WAVE) - Investigators say a man and woman both died when their Jeep Cherokee and Acura collided in the 14000 block of Taylorsville road just before midnight Sunday. The roadway was closed most of the night, but as of 7 a.m. one lane was open.
Metro Police say it appears the vehicles hit head on.
"It does appear that possibly the location of the damage to the vehicles that it was a head on...both vehicles are on opposite sides of the ditch of the roadway in the ditches," said Metro Public Information Officer Carey Klain, "but without witnesses that observed it, it makes it a little bit difficult. "
Investigators say no one witnessed the accident, but that someone may have driven past the scene shortly after the crash.
"We do believe that someone did travel through the scene after the accident did occur that may have seen something and may have witnessed something," Klain said. She added that if anyone drove past the accident, they should call the anonymous LMPD tipline at (502) 574-LMPD.
Police say at least one of the drivers was wearing a seatbelt. Officers were not releasing the names of the victims until family members could be notified. Autopsies were expected to be performed Monday to determine if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.
