Major prescription drug bust in New Albany

NEW ALBANY, IN (WAVE) – A New Albany husband and wife are behind bars after a major prescription pill bust. It was a tip that lead New Albany Police to Riverview Manor Apartments in the 1600 block of Dewey Street this afternoon. Inside officers discovered 671 narcotic pills and more than $1000 in cash.

The pills are valued at more than $10,000. 68-year-old Lonnie Page and his wife 25-year-old Jessica Curtis were both arrested and taken into custody. New Albany Police Chief Todd Bailey says prescription drug abuse is one of the biggest problems currently in the city.

"Many of our small problems are a result of drug activity," said Bailey. "People who are dealing drugs and people who are using drugs. Some of the biggest things we see today are prescription narcotics that are being misused or treated like illicit substances like methamphetamine and cocaine."

Bailey says this will make a substantial dent in the drug market in New Albany and that this bust is big for any size city.

The couple is in the Floyd County Jail facing multiple drug charges.
