Body found on northeast side of Indianapolis

INDIANAPOLIS (WAVE) - The Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department has recovered a decomposed body from Fall Creek on the northeast side of Indianapolis.

According to a news release from the Bloomington Police Department, investigators are working with the IMPD, but at this time there is not enough information to determine the identity or a basic description.

Police hope a forensic examination will provide more information.

IMPD officials say passersby found the body floating in the creek lodged between some debris on Sunday. Authorities are investigating and the Marion County Coroner's Office plans to determine the cause of death Tuesday morning.

The Bloomington Police Department has been investigating the disappearance of an Indiana University student and said it has been in contact with Indianapolis police regarding the body.

But police said there is not enough information yet for Indianapolis officers to immediately determine the identity, age or race of the woman.

For the past month, Bloomington police have been searching for 20-year-old Lauren Spierer, who disappeared early June 3 after a night out with friends.

We'll bring you the latest information as soon as it becomes available.
