Jeffersonville residents celebrate the 4th of July

JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) - People across Kentuckiana celebrated with red, white, and blue Monday.

In the heart of Jeffersonville, people showed off their patriotic pride with the Freedom Parade and Celebration.

"I think it's very important that we remember our country," said Walter Carrico.

The grand marshals of the parade are soldiers that are either just back from Afghanistan or soldiers that are getting ready to deploy.

"Turns my heart that knowing how grateful we should be," said Carrico. "What a wonderful country we have. And how we should continue our traditions."

Natalie Carden Came out to honor her boyfriend, Lance Corporal Michael Watson who is in Afghanistan.

"It's just really important to show tribute to our soldiers and people who are serving our country," said Carden. "That's the reason we have freedom and lifestyle that we have."

The parade also honored Jeffersonville native Army Specialist Christopher Wright. The 23-year-old was killed last August, when insurgents attacked his unit in Afghanistan. His mother was at the parade today and told us she was moved by the communities support.

As those who come out to celebrate our country's birthday, they remember the men and women who are celebrating in a different country.

"I think this is excellent reminder of being a citizen and what our country stands for," said Carrico.
