Fire crews contain blaze at GE's Appliance Park

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Several fire departments responded to a fire at GE's Appliance Park in the 4000 block of Buechel Bank Road Friday morning.

Crews from Buechel, Okolona and Camp Taylor Fire Departments responded to the call just before 8 a.m. LMPD and Metro EMS crews are also on the scene.

As WAVE crews arrived on the scene, firefighters were entering a door on the roof of a two-story building.

According to GE spokeswoman Julie Wood, there was a small fire in an exhaust stack in Building 5. She says constructions crews were clearing out an area in an older part of the factory to make way for new equipment coming next year.

Wood didn't know if the construction crews sparked the fire or if they were even in the area when it started.

Employees were evacuated and the fire has been contained, although the Buechel Fire Department remained at the scene to make sure there were no hot spots.

Wood says most factory and office employees had returned to work by 9 a.m.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
