LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE)-The mother of 27-year-old Ashley Davis says every day is difficult to go through, since her daughter's murder.
But Saturday, Connie Parker, her friends and family are celebrating Davis' life on a special day.
Surrounded by pictures, family and friends, Parker is remembering and celebrating
the life of her daughter 27-year old Ashley Davis on what would've been her 28th birthday
"She enjoyed being around the horses and around the animals," Parker said about her daughter. "She was born on Saturday July 9th. So, at 4:23, we're going to let the balloons go in memory of her for her celebration of life." Parker said.
On November 16, 2010, Davis was found dead in her apartment. Police say she was strangled. Metro Police later arrested Michael Dion Greene and charged him with Davis' murder.
For Parker, living without her daughter is hard
"I mean, like, I wake up, I think about her," Parker said "There's not really too much time that goes by that I actually don't really think of her."
Saturday, Davis' friends and family were thinking of her
"OK. Everybody can let theirs go!" Parker said after she released a balloon with her grandson.
The group released balloons in Davis' honor into the sky.
"So, dry your eyes and remember me. Not as I am now, but as I used to be," Parker said as she read a poem aloud "Because I will remember you all and look with a smile. Understand in your hearts that I've only gone to rest for a little while." She said.
Greene is being held at Metro Corrections. He is facing murder and rape charges. Davis had taken out an emergency protective order against Greene in the weeks before her death that was never served.
