LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Shively police are investigating after one person was shot early this morning.
It happened around 6:45 a.m. in the 200 block of Crums Lane at the Williamsburg Apartments across the street from Butler High School.
Col. Kevin Higdon says the victim told them he was robbed and then shot.
"When the officers got here they found the subject out in front of the apartments," Chief Higdon told WAVE 3 News.
That victim, which police will only describe as a male in his late teens, was shot in the stomach and was rushed to University Hospital.
Police are still trying to determine if the suspect was in fact robbed, and where that could have taken place.
"It doesn't appear right now that there was anything going on inside the home, everything appears to be outside," Chief Higdon said.
It's an area that rarely sees crime.
"This is out of the ordinary; we don't have a lot of runs made to any of these apartments or in this area," Chief Higdon said.
Neighbors agree and say they were stunned at what happened overnight.
"When I just came out this morning it was very shocking to see yellow tape everywhere," Karen Doss said.
Doss says she heard a noise, but thought nothing of it.
"Everybody's still doing fireworks so you thought it was fireworks so you can't compare what's going on," Doss said.
It's an area where people keep an eye out for each other - and for anything out of the ordinary. Police and neighbors say they can't think of the last time something like this has taken place.
"This is a great neighborhood; me and my sister have lived here for 18 years," Doss said.
Police say the victim's injuries are not life threatening. Detectives cleared the scene at 9:30 after taking pictures and gathering evidence. It wasn't immediately cleared who called police.
There is no suspect information at this time. Police are still trying to get additional details on the reported robbery.
