Water being handed out to those affected by boil water advisory

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Louisville Water Company is providing their customers in the boil water advisory free bottled water.

Customers can pick up the water at Papa John's Cardinal Stadium near Floyd Street and Central Avenue.

Employees will distribute the water to those that pull in. Customers will receive 12 bottles of water.

This giveaway starts at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday and goes until the supply ends.

"We know this is one of the hottest days of the year and it's a major inconvenience to have to boil your water so it's a small gesture on our part," said Vince Guenthner.

While Louisville water officials have been scrambling to repair the water main break in the long term, others have been working for the short term.

"We worked with the emergency management agency at metro to kind of coordinate and worked with their contacts and Kroger to pull this together quickly," Guenthner said.

Two Kroger semi trucks stocked with bottled water and fork-lift services by Equipment Depot provided 12 bottles of water to more than 6,000 people impacted by the boil water advisory.

"I saw on WAVE 3 News that Kroger was donating water to the area so I stopped by," Alan Rosedale said.

Others were just finding out about the advisory, and welcomed the free water.

"I came by to get a sink and then I saw over here that they said to boil water and I don't have time to boil water because I have to go to work so I stopped to get some of this," Kathie Bowman said.

As the sun beats down on Kentuckiana, it's baking the area as the non-stop summer sizzler sends several searching some substance.

"It's for drinking and if not's corrected by tomorrow, it will be making Wednesday morning's coffee," Rosedale said.

Officials would like to thank Kroger who donated 2 semi's full of water to distribute and to Equipment Depot for donating a forklift operator and forklift.
