LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville mother pleads guilty to reckless homicide in the death of her newborn.

"The defendant, you miss Walters, gave your infant son an adult dose of diphenhydramine," said Judicial Circuit Court Judge Olu Stevens. "This placed the infant in serious risk of harm. Some time later on that evening, the defendant left the 8-month-old victim unattended in a bath tub filled with water. The child was left alone in the tub until he was discovered, drowned, by the defendant."

Along with reckless homicide, Geneva Walters also pleaded guilty to wanton endangerment first for the 2008 death of eight-month-old Michael Cowherd.

Walters faces up to five years in prison.

The Commonwealth is recommending a sentence of 60 days with probation.

Formal sentencing is set for September 7th.
