LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Emergency crews are searching the Ohio River near the Dixie Beach area for a child who has been reported missing.
MetroSafe says they received the initial call of a missing child around 11:15 Monday morning.
Louisville Metro Police Department spokesman Dwight Mitchell tells WAVE3 the female is 2 1/2 years old, and was spending the day with family in a beach area along the Ohio River. There are adults and children in the group. Someone noticed she was missing, and the search began to find her.
A neighbor tells WAVE News that the mom, 2 1/2-year-old, step-dad and uncle were in the Ohio, when the mom brought her daughter to the shore. The child was playing in ankle deep water when she disappeared.
The search team includes water rescue responders from Louisville Metro & Pleasure Ridge Park Fire.
The child was not wearing any type of flotation device, according to Mitchell.
There are also police K9's searching the grassy, weeded areas where the child was last seen.
