CRAWFORD COUNTY, IN (WAVE) - Indiana State Police have released the names of the people involved in an early morning deadly crash in southern Indiana.
Police say Crawford County Dispatch received a call around 1:15 Wednesday morning of a single vehicle crash on westbound I-64 near the 96 mile marker.
According to the Crawford County Coroner's Office, 51-year-old James E. Loper of Bowling Green, KY was killed and 36-year-old Eddie H. Goodine of Cleveland, TN was injured when the FedEx semi truck they were in went off the roadway and struck the overpass at Wyandotte Cave Road.
Loper was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner and Goodine was air-lifted to University of Louisville Hospital. According to FedEx spokesman Dave Hill, Goodine is in stable condition.
"As far as what happened, we are working with officials right now to figure that out," said Hill. "Our thoughts go out to everyone involved."
Hill told us that Loper, who has been with the company since 2009, Goodine has been with the company since 2010. It is unclear right now who was the driver at the time of the accident. FedEx and ISP are still working to determine that information.
Hill said the pair was a driver team who were independent contractors. They don't own the truck, but operate it.
The truck had been picked up in West Virginia and was headed to Oklahoma.
All lanes of westbound I-64 were reopened just after noon today.
