LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Triathlon enthusiasts in the area are hoping to get kids involved in the sport at a young age. Over the next two weekends they are holding a clinic and a triathlon at E.P. Tom Sawyer Park.
Kids from ages 7 to 15 are eligible, but must have their own swimming, biking, and running gear, including a bicycle. The clinic, which is from 8 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 31, teaches kids the basics of a triathlon. For more info call (502) 541-9541 or visit www.trainsmartmultisport.com. The clinic is $50. The Kids 4 Kids Triathlon will be on August 7, and is broken up into four divisions (7-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-15). Kids in the 7-8 group will swim 50 yards, bike 1.24, and run .62 miles. Kids in the 9-10 group will swim 100 yards, bike 1.86 miles and run .62 miles. Kids in the 11-12 will swim 200 yards, bike 3.1 miles, and run 1.24 miles. Kids in the 13-15 group will swim 200 yards, bike 6.2 miles and run 1.86 miles.
The 7-10 year-olds start at 8 a.m. with the 11-15 year-olds starting 20 minutes after completion of the first race. Registration and packet pick-up begin at 7 a.m.
The cost is $25 before July 31, or $35 after July 31 and on race day.
