UK football players report for practice

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Kentucky's football players have reported to their training facility for the preseason's first round of team meetings.

Players on Thursday arrived at the Nutter Training Facility and signed in to pick up equipment and began closed-door meetings.

The Wildcats, who finished 6-7 last season, are forced to replace most of their offensive production from a year ago.

Quarterback Mike Hartline, wide receiver Chris Matthews, and running back and return man Derrick Locke have graduated. Senior linebacker Ronnie Sneed says the meetings for defensive players will focus on new co-defensive coordinator Rick Minter's playbook. Minter was hired in December and coached the team through spring practice but Sneed says new plays are still being installed.

Kentucky opens its season on Sept. 1 against Western Kentucky at LP Field in Nashville, Tenn.
