LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Pleasure Ridge Park High School senior is in the hospital, fighting to stay alive after Louisville Metro Police say he was stabbed in the head. 17-year-old Troy Walters was rushed to University of Louisville Hospital Tuesday night with what police called life-threatening injuries.
Seven o'clock at night is not a time Melinda Miller thought she'd have to be nervous about violence on her typically quiet street. But on Tuesday night, she knew staying inside was the best place to be.
"When I came home there was a bunch of kids out in the driveway next door they were yelling and cussing and arguing and all this," said Miller.
Just down the road Shannon Mexicotte was in the same spot.
"My boyfriend and my brother told us all to get in the house," Mexicotte said.
They say it was all unfolding outside 6805 Memory Lane. They both say they saw a car driving up and down the road and then the police showed up.
"I knew it had to be something bad," says Miller.
Mexicotte later found out from her boyfriend what he saw happen.
"The tall black guy grabbed the boy from the driver's side and pulled him into the woods and just started stabbing him," said Mexicotte.
Metro Police say Marcus Chapman stabbed Walters several times in the head and the neck. They won't say what started it, only that Walters had gotten in the middle of a fight between Chapman and his friend, Christopher Payton, when he became the victim.
Chapman appeared in court Thursday morning on attempted murder charges. He is being held on a $50,000 full cash bond.
