LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Five months after a deadly explosion in Rubbertown, Louisville's new citizen alert system is closer to being reality.
Tuesday, Mayor Greg Fischer's office said the city has hired the Emergency Communications Network to implement the system that will alert people to everything from explosions to severe weather.
The $150,000, three year contract was awarded to the Florida-based company last week.
It will take up to 45 days to implement the new system. Residents will need to sign up to receive alerts.
