Police look for suspect targeting joggers in Hyde Park
HYDE PARK, OH (FOX19) -
Police are looking for a suspect who is accused of exposing himself to female joggers in Hyde Park.
According to Cincinnati Police District 2 Capt. Paul Broxterman, there have been three reports of the man exposing himself or grabbing women in Hyde Park Square.
"It just was a real heads up to me as an early morning walker," Kathy Hoopes said.
Hoopes and her 70 pound golden retriever Sammy hit the streets nearly every morning at 5:30 a.m.
"If I was walking by myself, until this is resolved, I would probably rearrange my schedule," Hoopes admitted.
Even still, she and Sammy will be on high alert.
"This person has been identified as a pretty large athletic man," Hoopes said. "When you're just jogging and you literally have on just shorts, a T-shirt, and tennis shoes you don't have a lot with you to protect yourself."
"We have stepped up our direct patrols in the area," explained Cpt. Paul Broxterman with the Cincinnati Police Department. "We have some other investigative measures that are going on that I really can't divulge right now."
For residents like Hoopes those patrols are comforting.
"We're confident that this subject has some mental health issues and he's not going to stop his behavior," Broxterman said. "He's operating in this area so we're very confident that we're going to get him very quickly."
In addition to the three incidents Monday and Tuesday police say there have been some anonymous calls, but that the main area of concern centers around Hyde Park.
"There may be one other incident in Oakley that he may be involved with but this seems to be his hunting ground right now," Broxterman said.
"I would hope that there are enough people out that people are going to be very vigilant and watchful for one another," Hoopes encouraged.
"He has escalated his behavior as well," Broxterman acknowledged. "In the last incident yesterday he actually had contact with the female. So that steps up his game a little bit and that's what causes us concern."
Two incidents occurred on Monday morning. In one case, two female joggers told police the man dropped his pants and started pleasuring himself.
Another incident occurred early Tuesday when the suspect allegedly slapped a woman on her behind as she jogged past him.
According to a police report, one victim noted the suspect getting out of a white older model Chevy Cavalier with possible panel damage.
The suspect is described as a black man in his 20's, about 6-feet tall with an athletic build last seen wearing a beige shirt with buttons and jean pants.
Anyone with information should call Crimestoppers at 513-352-3040.
