LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – With the traffic problems around Kentuckiana brought on by the closure of the Sherman Minton Bridge, one of the other hot topics right now is the planned east end bridges.

Some WAVE 3 facebook fans page are saying this bridge problem is just more reason to get the new bridges built sooner. We tracked down Mayor Greg Fischer and asked him for an update on the bridges project.

"Three things remain," Fischer said, "the financial plan by the bridges project, the acceptance of the environmental impact by the feds, and third, a lawsuit outstanding. Once the environmental impact statement is passed and it should because the footprint is so small. The plan is the project will start at the end of 2012."

The lawsuit Fischer was referring to was filed by preservation groups, including the local environmental group, River Fields. The board president of River Fields said an expanded downtown bridge would help right now mach more than an east end bridge.
