Louisville man charged with murder after assault victim dies

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville man is behind bars and charged with murder after an assault turned deadly.

Police say the assault happened Saturday around 11:00 p.m. near Burnett Avenue and Hickory Street.

35-year-old Gary Muncy's assault charge was upgraded to murder. A metro police spokeswoman says Muncy killed 38-year-old Donald Smith Junior.

The coroner's office says Smith died from a traumatic brain injury after he was punched in the face.

Police will only say the families of the two men knew each other.
