RICHMOND, KY (WAVE) - A Florida woman whose son died in a dorm fire at a Kentucky university is helping to launch a program at Eastern Kentucky University that will teach students about fire safety.

Gail Minger founded the Minger Foundation in honor of her son. Monday, she was in Richmond to help kick off a fire safety project called, "Help Save a Life, Get on the Truck."

19-year-old Michael Minger died in a 1998 fire in a Murray State University residence hall. Late last week, 35-year-old Jerry Walker was charged with manslaughter, arson, assault and wanton endangerment in that fire.
