LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - It was the punch turned deadly at a popular festival and still so many unanswered questions surrounding the case.
Gary Muncy was charged with murder after a fight during the Schnitzelberg Walk in Germantown on September 24, 2011. WAVE 3 has learned Muncy bonded out of Metro Corrections September 30, 2011.
Louisville Metro Police say there is nothing new on their end in their investigation.
But, people in the Germantown area are looking for answers.
"I've heard all kinds of things," said resident Matt Medley.
The altercation took place at East Burnett and Hickory street.
"When something happens right in front of your door you are really concerned," said resident Cecilia Longest.
Police say Muncy punched 38-year old Donald Smith Jr. after some sort of altercation during the Schnitzelberg Walk. Smith was pronounced dead at U of L from a traumatic brain injury.
"Kind of crazy whenever I came home that night around 3:00 a.m., I opened this front door and there was crime scene tape I could touch it from inside here," said Medley.
"It was a situation where earlier that night an altercation took place between the victim and some friends or relatives of our suspect," said LMPD Lt. Barry Wilkerson during a September 26, 2011 interview.
While police aren't saying much about led to the fight, those in the area have their own theories about what led Muncy to allegedly throw the punch that killed Smith.
"Either hitting on his sister or making fun of his sister who was apparently deaf, that's what I heard," said Medley. "I have sisters and I wouldn't like that but, no body deserves to die."
Medley added that he wasn't exactly for sure what the relationship was between Muncy and the person he was allegedly defending.
Muncy was initially charged with assault, his charge was upgraded to murder after Smith died. According to Muncy's Linkedin page, he is a personal trainer, massage therapist, and a bartender. WAVE 3 did go to Muncy's listed address but, no one answered. Smith's family members had no comment.
