GEORGETOWN, KY (WAVE) – Police believe that two very large marijuana busts overnight may be related.
The first happened early Tuesday evening in Lexington where investigators arrested two men after finding thousands of pounds of marijuana in an upscale home.
The second bust happened around 8:30 in Scott County when police tried to stop a car for traffic violations, but the driver sped off and led police on a high speed chase.
When officers eventually stopped the car they found hundreds of pounds of marijuana and a suitcase full of cash. Five people were arrested in connection to that car.
"This is a massive blow to whoever is trafficking this narcotics," said Lt. Robert Swanigan of the Georgetown, KY Police. "We not only do we have their drugs, but we have their currency. In reality that is all they care about."
Swanigan said he couldn't say enough about how proud he is of the officers who made the bust.
