Keeneland: Jockey OK after spill, Aruna takes Spinster

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Aruna posted a 1½-length victory over Pachattack in the $500,000 Spinster Stakes at Keeneland on Sunday.

The 2-1 favorite made her debut on Polytrack a winning one for trainer Graham Motion, and earned an automatic berth into the Breeders' Cup Ladies Classic at Churchill Downs next month.

Ridden by Ramon Dominguez, Aruna covered the 1 1-8 miles in 1:47.9 and returned $6.80, $3.60 and $3. Pachattack paid $4.20 and $3.40, and La Gran Bailadora returned $7.80 to show. Motion said Aruna, who made her previous 11 starts on turf, could run in either the BC Ladies Classic or the BC Filly & Mare Turf.

Meanwhile in the race prior to the Spinster, the  Bourbon Stakes, jockey Julien Leparoux was thrown from his mount while leading in the stretch run.  The 2-year-old, Here Comes Frazier got spooked, then  bumped the rail, tossing Leparoux over the rail.   The jockey suffered only a sore hand, while the colt was taken to the Rood and Riddle vet clinic.   The colt's trainer, Ken McPeek, is hoping Here Comes Frazier suffered a muscle injury and not a fracture.

Animal Spirits won the Bourbon Stakes.
