According to police, a 1998 Ford Explorer left the roadway on the south side of the eastbound lane. The SUV struck an earth embankment and flipped over several times, coming to final rest approximately 50 feet from the interstate. Hensley was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by the Shelby County Coroner's Office.

Police say Hensley was the only person in the vehicle and was not wearing his seatbelt and the airbags did not deploy.
