SHELBYVILLE, KY (WAVE) - One man has died in a single car accident on eastbound I-64 near the 34 mile marker in Shelby County.
The Shelby County Sheriff's Office tells us Matthew Hensley of Waddy was killed in the accident that happened around 8:51 Wednesday morning.
According to police, a 1998 Ford Explorer left the roadway on the south side of the eastbound lane. The SUV struck an earth embankment and flipped over several times, coming to final rest approximately 50 feet from the interstate. Hensley was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene by the Shelby County Coroner's Office.
Police say Hensley was the only person in the vehicle and was not wearing his seatbelt and the airbags did not deploy.
Drugs and alcohol are not suspected in the accident.
A witness to the accident told police the he saw the Explorer and a red pickup truck engage in a road rage incident prior to the accident. The truck and SUV never collided, but the actions of the truck were a contributing factor to the accident. The driver of the truck never stopped. The truck is described as a red, late model pickup.
