Man sentenced to 15 years in connection with 2008 murder

LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville man will spend 15 years behind bars in connection with the murder of an immigrant shop owner in Portland.

Judge Mitch Perry sentenced John Benton, Jr. to 15 years in jail. Ten years for robbery and five years for second degree manslaughter. The sentences will run consecutively.

Benton was convicted in the 2008 murder of Mohamed Abdul Rahman at New York Fashions on Lytle Street.

Abdul Rahman immigrated to Louisville from Darfur to find a better life.
