Jeffersonville chemical leak contained

Posted: Updated:

JEFFERSONVILLE, IN (WAVE) - A chemical leak in Jeffersonville is under control. Clark County dispatch confirms one person was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Dispatch says hydrogen sulfide leaked from a tanker truck that overheated just before 2 p.m. Even though neighbors can smell it, it is at safe level.

"Air quality testing is ongoing and we are seeing nothing that would cause a danger to people," said Mindy Christian, Jeffersonville's emergency management coordinator. "People will smell an odor similar to rotten eggs or natural gas, but the leak is contained and it will just take some time for the odor to go away."

The leak is at a Idemitsu Lubricants America Corporation (ILA), formerly Apollo America Corporation at Utica Pike and Port Road.
