I am not a morning person, not even close.
Nevertheless, for the last few years I have been pulling myself out of bed at 3:30 a.m. It's not getting any easier, but Sheila and Dan make my job fun. In fact, since graduating from college, I have never enjoyed working in broadcast news more. The morning team is like my family away from home, and I am far away from home.
I did most of my growing up in Japan. I was born there and lived in the Tokyo area until I left for college. At the age of 18, I boarded a plane and flew to the United States.
My parents wanted me to go to school on the West Coast, so I would be nearby. I wanted to go to school on the East Coast. They won. I ended up in the state of Washington, where I received my college education.
With a broadcast degree in hand, I started applying for jobs. I found one in the desert town of Bakersfield, California, but not only did I not get the job, I didn't even receive a letter of rejection.
Luckily after months of living with my parents, I finally landed a position in Yakima, Washington. I started as a reporter and worked my way up to weekend anchor for the local ABC affiliate. Then, I moved to Hartford, Connecticut. I reported the news for a short time, and then moved to Cincinnati to anchor the weekend desk at FOX19.
Now, I anchor the morning show, and don't plan on moving anytime soon. I truly enjoy my job, the show, and especially the viewers. They all make it worth pulling myself out of bed at 3:30 in the morning.
