Our editorial last week advocating congressional term limits elicited much response.
Debra emailed, "Politician should not be a vocational choice. Nor should it ever be compensated as such. If we could only fix this problem, we could solve most, if not all of what is wrong with our government today."
Mark agreed, saying, "Too many politicians have become comfortable in their office and have lost touch with the people who put them in there."
Dorothy emailed, "As our world evolves and our issues and focus change, having a fresh perspective on a regular basis would allow us all to be more flexible and bring new strategies to the table."
Gary offered clarification regarding Social Security. Since 1984 all members of Congress have been required to participate in it. Prior to then they didn't pay Social Security taxes nor were they eligible for those benefits.
Nearly 500 retired members of Congress are receiving federal pensions based fully or in part on their congressional service.
We appreciate all of your feedback.
