Burke recommended for general court-martial

FORT CAMPBELL, KY (WAVE) - The investigating officer in the second Article 32 investigation held for Sgt. Brent Burke has recommended that the charges be referred to a general court-martial.

Burke has been charged with pre-meditated murder in the deaths of his estranged with Tracy Burke and her former mother-in-law, Karen Comer. He is also being charged with burglary. Burke faces life in prison or death if he is convicted.

Burke is currently being held in pre-trial confinement at a civilian confinement facility and will face a general court-martial, which is the most serious level of military courts.

A trial date has been set for Feb. 6, 2012.
