LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Ford is rolling out its big product, the new Escape, which is made in Jefferson County. The company spent more than $600 million to update the Louisville Assembly Plant to produce the new model which was debuted Wednesday at the Los Angeles Car Show.

Jeremy Jones, sales manager at Downtown Ford, said more and more customers are asking about the Escape.

"I was looking at the red Ford Escape V-6," said customer Melvin Mitchell. "It's got everything."

The Escape is already the top-selling SUV in America, and Jones predicts the new ones will only get better with plenty of new features.

"The park assist is like seeing Picasso paint a picture," said Jones.

It will also have a hands-free power liftgate, blind spot censor and better fuel mileage, but the specific amount is still being calculated.

"I'm going to say 30 miles per gallon plus," guesses Jones.

The 20-13 model debuted at the Los Angeles Car Show Wednesday.

"Great to look at, but also great to sit in and fun to drive," said Ford President of the Americas Mark Fields on stage at the show.

Company execs touted an improved computer system and 4-wheel drive, also the ability to tow 3,500 lbs.

The new Escape is built in Jefferson County after Ford invested hundreds of millions into the Louisville Assembly Plant and added a new shift of workers to pump out the new SUV.

"It's an important product to us," said Jim Farley a VP at Ford at the car show.
