LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The Kentucky State Fair Board president says a pending lawsuit with the former operator of Kentucky Kingdom will not stop it from reopening.
Harold Workman said the original timeline of 2013 still stands, despite the fact they do not have an operator and the former operator is suing.
Workman said the lawsuit Ed Hart filed against the state should not get in the way of them getting the park operating again. Hart claims the state owes him $4.4 million that is was supposed to get two months ago.
Although he would not comment on the lawsuit, Workman said he believes it will play out soon. In the meantime, Workman said they have a lot of interest from several people to take over operations.
"We will be moving forward trying to acquire a new operator. We've had a lot of interest and making progress," said Workman. "We hope to have something to report in the fairly near future."
As for who is taking care of the park, Workman said the Expo Center staff is maintaining the shrubs and the rides. Workman said there will be some deterioration, but the park will not go into disrepair.
