KY man charged in deadly Southern Indiana crash

FLOYD COUNTY, IN (WAVE) - A Kentucky man is behind bars in Southern Indiana, accused of driving while intoxicated, and causing a deadly crash.

Floyd County, Indiana authorities say just after 11:30 Saturday night, 31-year-old Wesley Bradshaw, of Danville, KY, was driving south on State Road 111. Police say just south of Budd Road, Bradshaw crossed the center line, hitting another car nearly head-on.

The driver of the other car, 52-year-old Kevin Hammersmith, of Floyds Knobs, IN, was taken to a hospital, where he later died. WAVE 3 has learned Hammersmith was the director of Government and Community Relations for Duke Energy in southern Indiana. A passenger in his car was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries.

Police say Bradshaw refused treatment.

Investigators say Bradshaw was on a controlled substance a the time of the crash. He was arrested and is being held in the Floyd County Jail.
