LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A member of the Louisville Metro Council is commenting after several residents filed a lawsuit regarding the council's plans for redistricting.
The suit claims the Metro Council's redrawing of the 26 council voting districts will violate a federal law that is meant to protect minority voting.
This suit was filed by the same group formed to protest disciplinary action taken against former Metro Councilwoman Judy Green.
Councilman Rick Blackwell, chair of the ad hoc committee on redistricting, released this statement:
"I respect their right to file suit; however, it was a very important goal for our committee to maintain minority representation on the Council. We worked closely with the County Attorney and an expert in redistricting to address all legal requirements. I am confident that our work will be upheld."
