WALTON, KY (FOX19) -

The driver in the crash that killed two women early Saturday morning has been arrested and charged with two counts of murder, aggravated D.U.I., and no insurance.

The crash happened around 3 a.m. Saturday in the 10,000 block of U.S. 25 in Walton, Kentucky.

Logan Ellis, 22 of Nancy, Kentucky was southbound on U.S. 25 in his 2000 Chevrolet Malibu when he lost control in a curve, ran off the road, and struck a utility pole. The severe impact caused the car to split into two pieces.

One of the passengers was ejected. The other was found in the back seat. Heather Stanley, 21 and Stacy Hopkins, 43, both of Dry Ridge, Kentucky were pronounced dead at the scene. Ellis was transported by ground to University Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio with non life-threatening injuries.

The collision is under investigation by the Boone County Sheriff's Office Accident Reconstruction Team. The obvious factor is that excessive speed was a contributing factor. The entire roadway was shut down until approximately 10:30 a.m.

Logan Ellis was arrested Monday at afternoon and charged with two (2) counts of Murder (wanton), D.U.I. (aggravated), and no insurance. He turned himself in at the Hamilton County Sheriff's office.
