Shelbyville under boil water advisory

Posted: Updated:

SHELBYVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Residents in Shelbyville are under a boil water advisory due to a water main break.

The water has been shut off at 11th and Main Streets. The 8 inch break occurred around 12:30 p.m.

The advisory affects the following areas:

  • 11th St from Washington to Equity Streets
  • Crescent Court area
  • 1124 Main to 9th & Main Street
  • 9th Street to Main & Washington Streets
  • 1000 block of Henry Clay Street

Although there is no contamination at this time, as a precautionary measure residents are advised to boil their water.

Bring all water to a rolling boil, let it boil for 3 minutes, and let it cool before using it, or use bottle water.  Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms that may be in the water.

Crews are working to fix the break and said the advisory could last up to 24 hours.
