LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - The University of Louisville football program picked up a verbal commitment on Monday from Central running back Anthony Wales. Wales is the all-time leading rusher in Jefferson County history.
He helped lead the Yellow Jackets to 3 state titles in the last 4 seasons.
"The reason why I chose Louisville, I always wanted to just play for Louisville, it was the only team I was seeing. I went on my visit and I just saw how more and more that program is a family," Wales told WAVE 3. "All of them have one goal and that's to play in a major bowl game and I want to be a part of that."
He picked the Cards after visiting Kentucky last weekend. "I think both coaches, I really love, I really love what they are doing, but I just think that Louisville is more on the rise than UK is, and I just feel like this is my hometown and I just want to be a hometown hero."
Wales is still recovering from a shoulder injury, suffered in the first quarter of Central's state title game win over Belfry. He says he can't start lifting until April and may redshirt as a freshman at U of L.
He rushed for 2,784 yards and 40 touchdowns in 2011.
Wales has designs on becoming the "Face" of the U of L program. "That's a very big dream for me, I want to do that so much, being able to walk around Louisville and just everybody just know, hey that's Ace, or hey, he's the face of Louisville, he's a hometown kid. Just having all that on me, I would really love that," he said.
