LUDLOW, KY (WAVE) - A northern Kentucky daycare worker is facing charges of criminal abuse after a toddler was duct taped to his sleeping mat.
Police arrested 20-year-old Alicia Lyons on Wednesday. She was released on a $2,500 unsecured bond and was set to be arraigned in Kenton County on Friday morning.
Police say Lyons was working at Mustard Seeds Child Care in Ludlow, when she became frustrated because the child wouldn't go to sleep. According to a police report, Lyons admitted to taping the boy to a mat "to get him to calm down."
The incident happened in October when the child was about 18-months-old, but the mother just learned about it this week. The child is not being identified because of his age.
Mustard Seeds fired Lyons and notified police after she admitted to taping the boy down. The daycare said in a statement Lyons, who had worked there since August, "passed all background checks required under state law."
State officials are investigating to determine if anyone else knew about the incident, but did not report it.
