INDIANAPOLIS, IN (WAVE) - Police in Indianapolis are preparing for the unexpected while getting ready for one of the biggest events in city history Super Bowl 46.
The Super Bowl is expected to draw more than 150,000 visitors to Indianapolis. The festivities began Friday with the opening of the Super Bowl Village
Since Indianapolis landed the Super Bowl, police have headed up security plans to make sure families stay safe downtown. Both old and newly installed security cameras on city streets will help police see what's happening around the stadium and the Super Bowl Village.
Police also plan to give you a way to quickly reach them in case something bad happens.
"There have been phone numbers put into play that people will be able to text if they see something suspicious," said Sgt. Brian Dixon with the Indianapolis Metro Police Department.
Police officers are not the only ones preparing for the Super Bowl. Even the county coroners office is taking extra precautions. They say when you have this many people in the city you could have a tragedy and it is important to be prepared.
