LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Kentucky Transportation Secretary Mike Hancock announced Monday that the search is now on for contractors to design and build the new Downtown Louisville Bridge. Contractors that are eventually chosen, will also be responsible for modernizing the existing Downtown interchange along with improving the I-65 connections to Southern Indiana.

Hancock says a pre-bid meeting is scheduled for Thursday, March 1, at the Kentucky International Convention Center, and the state hopes to select a contractor by October of this year.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the river, the Indiana Finance Authority is looking for public comments regarding its plans for a preliminary feasibility study and economic impact study done for the proposed East End Bridge. The Hoosier state will be footing that bill. The bridge is expected to connect Utica, Indiana with Prospect, Kentucky.

The study's intent is to determine the economic impacts of the project on existing commercial and industrial development as well as potential impacts on employment and future development.

Your chance to voice your opinion will come at an open meeting on Thursday, February 2 at the Sheraton Hotel in Jeffersonville. The meeting is scheduled to start at 6:00 p.m. in the Riverside Ballroom.

If you can't make it to the meeting in person, you're welcome to submit your comments online to the Bridges Authority's Web site here

The deadline for comments and suggestions is 10:00 a.m. Tuesday,  February 6.
