RADCLIFF, KY (WAVE) - The 28-year-old Hardin County babysitter who police say beat to death the little girl she was caring for answered to her upgraded charges. Ashley Chapman pled not guilty to murder Tuesday morning.
Police say last week she was caring for two-year-old Layla Johnson when she shook and hit the baby so hard she had to be taken to Kosair Children's hospital.
After Layla's death on Sunday, police changed Chapman's charges from criminal abuse to murder. She is being held on $500,000 cash bond.
Services for Layla have been scheduled. Visitation is from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Coffey and Chism Funeral Home in Vine Grove. Her funeral is Friday at 2 p.m. at Gloryland Harvest Church in Radcliff. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations to Kosair Children's Hospital.
